Almighty and All-Merciful Lord! I remember that You were born of the Holy Virgin in a cave and were betrayed for thirty pieces of silver by the treacherous disciple, so that You might redeem us sinners from the power of the devil. For this reason, I beg You, have mercy on me, a sinner!

Accept, O Lord, this humble prayer of mine, and my contrite heart, for I grieve because I have grieved You, and I am filled with sorrow because I have offended You beyond count. In You, O Most Good Saviour, I place all my hope, and I believe that You, who out of love for mankind consented to be betrayed for our sake, will now have mercy on me too, so that You may save me from eternal torment and make me worthy of Your Kingdom.

Do not turn away from me, O Lord, and help me, that in all things I may do Your will, and that I may no longer crucify You day after day with my sinful deeds, nor mock You with my evil thoughts, as the unbelieving Jews did during Your Holy Passion, but that, like the sinful woman, I may wash Your feet with the tears of my eyes, so that I too may be deemed worthy to hear from Your sweet Mouth: ‘Your sins are forgiven…’
